Today the remains of the ancient town make the site one of the major attractions of the ancient world.
Before lunch we visit Red Basilica.It was first built for honor of gods Serapis and Isis at the time of Emperor Hadrian in 2nd century A.D. The basilica is called the “red courtyard” by people because of its large courtyard and the whole structure being made up of red brick.It was later converted into a Byzantine church which became a religious center for Christians. Now The Basilica is a high priority for tourists visiting Bergama.
Asklepion is an ancient healing centre in Pergamon which was named after the healing God Asclepius.Asklepion was a mixture between a medical centre and spa with the facilities where the sick could relax and enjoy themselves with recreational activities that took place in a 3500-seat theater.It was also the world’s first phychiatric hospital.
